My Little Pet Dragon by Scott Gordon

My Little Pet Dragon is an amusing picture book featuring 28 adorable pieces of computer-generated artwork (similar to what you would see in a Pixar movie). The book is about 30 pages in all, and is best viewed in color.

As an added bonus, 100% of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to the family of Alyssa Mowery. Last October, Alyssa was struck by a car while crossing the street with her friend Mia Decker (deceased) and sister Rain (minor injuries). Although Alyssa has awakened from her coma and said her first word since the accident, she has a long way to go.

With your contribution and support, you can make a difference in this young girl's life.(synopsis from Amazon)

When I received Scott Gordon's email asking me to review his children's book, My Little Pet Dragon, my first thought was no. This isn't a genre I typically review. However, when I heard Alyssa's story and the wonderful generosity of this author, I couldn't help but spread the word. The book is delightful and all proceeds go to helping Alyssa and her family.

My Little Pet Dragon is a cute, funny, picture eBook that is sure to delight your little ones. Told from the child's POV, it tells the story of the pet dragon they received last Christmas. The child tells you all the stuff the dragon likes to do and each page shows colorful pictures of the dragon performing these various tasks. There is a silly twist at the end when the child receives this years Christmas present and it is sure to make your child giggle. The images are beautiful, the story whimsical and silly. The story is simple enough, that after a few reads, your child should be able to tell you the story. My children are in college, but as toddlers they would have loved this book.

My Little Pet Dragon is currently available only on Kindle. I reviewed this on my PC, and the images were crisp and clear. If you do not own a kindle, you can download the kindle app to your phone, personal computer, tablet and iPod. Treat your little one's to a fantastic picture book and help out a good cause. This eBook is scheduled to publish at B&N for the nook and a paperback version is in the works through Creative Space publishing. I will post an update as they become available.

Any blogger who would like to re-post my review to help out a good cause, please feel free to do so. To learn more about Alyssa and her story, see the links listed below.

Scott Gordon is also a fantasy writer so be sure and check out his website for his adult titles. The next children's book by Gordon is entitled:

I gave this delightful book 5 coffee cups out of 5 (or should that be milk?)

Update: My Little Pet Dragon is now available in Spanish. My Crazy Pet Frog has been published and  100% of the proceeds to all three books go toward helping Alyssa.

Thanks for your prayers, Kat.

Christin Mowery is part of my writers group. As the events unfolded, I became exposed to the heart-wrenching photos of her recovery on Facebook. It was about this time that I also came across the artwork that later became the cornerstone of My Little Pet Dragon.

For some reason I felt compelled to write it even though I had never written a children's book before (I deal with Sci Fi/Fantasy/Horror primarily). When it came time to dedicate the book, I took a break and really thought about it. The day before Thanksgiving I decided to dedicate it to Alyssa, and suddenly became aware of what really was driving the project.

A few years back, my wife's cousin Vanessa got in a serious car accident that put her into a coma that lasted 2 months, so I can definitely relate. With all the treatment that Alyssa will need over the coming years, there's no way that the Mowery family can shoulder the expense by themselves, which is why I chose to act.

BTW Kat, I checked out your blog and noticed that you review romance novels. It just so happens that my mother is a historical romance writer. Her works include The Valiant Heart, The Defiant Heart and The Captive Heart (written as Anita Gordon), and A Slip in Time, Shades of the Past and His Fair Lady (written as Kathleen Kirkwood). All six of these will be rereleased as e-books in the coming months.

Kimba, thanks for reviewing this book and posting it to your site. I have started putting childrens books on my Kindle for my 4 year old son, so I can read to him before bed. He loves that he can turn pages on my reader.

I would also like to thank S.E. Gordon for his generosity in donating proceed of this book to help in Alyssa's recovery. I will happily post a review of this book on my site with the donation information to help you along.

@Blodeuedd: Thanks. Working on this children's book certainly brought back memories. My son also learned how to say dragon for the first time. Win-win.

@Kat: Thanks for the compliment. Once my mother gets closer to rereleasing these novels, I'll let you know. These were all traditionally published and have never been released as e-books. Each is at least 100,000 words.

@Lady Jaye: And you make me want to write more children's books! :D
